The military buildings in Piedmont have different origins. The alpine fortresses represent the main group: among these some originate from the transformation of buildings dating back to the Spanish succession war, others, like the Bramafam fort, were built during the nineteenth century. The fort of Gavi was built by the republic of Genoa, while the citadel of Alessandria is a typical example of polygonal citadel and gives us an idea of how the citadel of Turin looked like at the beginning of the eighteenth century.
